Avebury stone circles at dawn, Wiltshire, UK
Avebury stone circles at dawn, Wiltshire, UK

These are some of the standing stones that make up the stone circles in the village of Avebury in Wiltshire, England. The stones encircle the town which fits neatly inside the huge circle, and as you can see the sheep are quite happy to share their grass with the stones.

The sheep actually huddle against the stones on cold early mornings like this. I couldn’t work out if the stones stored heat from the day before that the sheep liked, or if there are salts in the stones that the sheep like the taste of.

  • Such an evocative scene! You have really composed well the image and the evening tones make it mysterious and intriguing.
    A great work!

(I had forgot about you Tony, not being able to find your blog, glad that you appeared from the sky again! (:-)
